Frequently asked questions

Answers to what people ask before they start therapy with Unfurl.

01Do you take my insurance?

Unfurl is out of network and does not bill insurance directly. Many plans with out-of-network benefits reimburse part of a session, and your plan decides what it pays. Unfurl does not bill Medicare or Medi-Cal. How fees work has the details.

02What is a superbill?

A superbill is an itemized monthly receipt you can send to your plan to ask for reimbursement. It carries a diagnosis code, which your insurer sees, and reimbursement is not guaranteed.

03What is a Good Faith Estimate?

If you pay without insurance, you have the right to receive a written estimate of what care will cost before you start, and Bridgette gives you one. If a bill is well above the estimate, you can dispute it, and How fees work says how. The estimate is not a contract.

04How much does it cost?

Your fee is given to you in writing before you start. How fees work explains how paying works, in the order most people ask.

05Can I use an HSA or FSA card?

Yes. You can pay each session by card, including HSA and FSA cards.

06What happens in the first session?

You and Bridgette talk about how the first months have been, what you would like from sessions and how sessions would run. You do not need to prepare. You can bring the baby if the morning needs it, and you decide at the end whether to book another.

07How often are sessions, and how long?

Each session is 50 minutes. How often is for you and Bridgette to decide, and it can change as the baby's days do.

08Are you licensed where I live?

Bridgette is licensed in California. She sees people in person in San Francisco, and by video if you are in California when we meet.

09What do I do in a crisis?

Unfurl is not a crisis service, and this website and our voicemail are not monitored around the clock. Call or text 988, any time. If you or someone else is in danger, call 911.

10What is confidential, and what are the limits?

What you say in sessions is private. The limits under California law are a risk of serious harm to you or someone else, suspected abuse of a child or an elder, and a court order. Bridgette explains them in your first session.

11Can my partner come?

Yes, if you would like. A partner can join a session, or have a few of their own. Bridgette talks through with you what you want before anyone else is invited.

12What is your cancellation policy?

A session cancelled with less than 24 hours' notice is charged the session fee. If the baby is unwell, Bridgette will move it to video or to another day.
